Our Story

Building the Future, One Child at a Time

We started YoungMinds with a simple belief: every child deserves the chance to discover coding, build confidence, and develop skills that last a lifetime.

Who We Are

From a Simple Idea to a National Movement

YoungMinds Coding Academy was born from a passion for education and a frustration with the gap in technology learning for young people in Ireland. Too many children were missing out on coding and STEM opportunities simply because their school didn't have the resources, equipment, or expertise.

We set out to change that. Today, we're partnered with our founding Irish school and actively expanding — bringing Micro:bits, robotics kits and 8BitDo controllers directly into classrooms. Our trained mentors deliver engaging, hands-on lessons that make coding exciting and accessible for every child — regardless of background, ability, or experience.

What started as after-school workshops has grown into a comprehensive coding academy offering six core programmes — from visual programming and AI to cybersecurity and neurodiverse-friendly learning. We're just getting started, and every new classroom we enter is a win for Irish kids.

Our Values

What Drives Everything We Do

These values aren't just words on a page — they guide every lesson we plan, every mentor we train, and every child we teach.

Principle 01

Creativity First

We believe coding is a creative act. Every project is an opportunity for self-expression, imagination, and original thinking.

Principle 02

Inclusive by Design

Every child deserves access to technology education. We design our programmes to be welcoming, adaptive, and supportive of all learners.

Principle 03

Hands-On Learning

Children learn best by doing. Our classes are built around real projects, physical computing, and tangible outcomes — not worksheets.

Principle 04

Future-Ready Skills

Beyond coding syntax, we teach problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, and digital literacy — skills that last a lifetime.

Our Approach

Learning by Doing, Not by Watching

We don't believe in passive learning. Every YoungMinds class is built around hands-on projects, real equipment, and tangible outcomes. Children don't just learn about code — they build games, program robots, design websites, and create AI projects.

Our curriculum follows a clear learning pathway, starting with visual block-based coding (Scratch, MakeCode) and progressing through physical computing (Micro:bit, robotics) to text-based programming (HTML/CSS, Python). Each stage builds confidence.

We also believe that technology education should be for everyone. That's why we've built dedicated programmes for neurodiverse learners and run community initiatives for children from underserved backgrounds.

Inclusion & Community

Technology Education for Everyone

We believe no child should be left behind in the digital age. Our commitment to inclusion is at the heart of everything we build.

Neurodiverse-Friendly

Dedicated programmes with small classes, clear instructions, and sensory-friendly environments for children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other learning differences.

Community Impact

Subsidised and partnership programmes for refugees, migrant communities, and underserved schools. We partner with local organisations to make tech education accessible to all.
